Land-Rover Series 1 vehicles with the registration letters SXF were originally issued to the Civil Defence, Auxiliary Fire Service, and similar UK organisations in 1957-58. Many were stored before being sold off with low mileages. They are now probably the largest group of preserved vehicles of comparable age with similar registrations. This is the hard top version of the 88 inch Land Rover with improvements from the original HUE 166 Series 1 version. They carry door handles, different radiator configurations and the rear of the side doors are vertical, not slanted. The 80 inch wheelbase version was launched in 1948, in 1954 this was increased to 86 inches, A year later a 107 inch wheelbase appeared, both wheelbases were then extended by two inches to 88 inch and 109 inches respectively in 1956. There are a lot of variants on the Series 1 Land Rover and it would be apparent that modifications were made regularly.
